Meditation and Creativity

Transcendental Meditation can help creativity in a number of ways. It can:

  • Increase focus and attention. Studies have shown that when we take a break from our creative pursuits, the mind often comes up with solutions.  TM is a great way of taking a 20-minute break and can be of great benefit to our creative work by allowing the mind to naturally come up with more original ideas.
  • Increase self-awareness. Meditation can help you to become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. This can help you to better understand yourself and your creative process.
  • Improve divergent thinking. Divergent thinking is the ability to generate multiple creative solutions to a problem. TM can help to improve divergent thinking by teaching you to be more open-minded and to see things from different perspectives.
  • Reduce stress and anxiety. When you are stressed or anxious, it can be difficult to think creatively. Transcendental Meditation can help to reduce stress and anxiety, which can free up your mind to be more creative.
  • Promote a flow state. A flow state is a state of intense concentration and focus where you are fully immersed in your creative work. Meditation can help to promote flow states by allowing you to let go of distractions and turn the attention within.

If you are looking to boost your creativity, TM is a great place to start. You can learn to meditate with The Meditation People in the comfort of your own home by learning on Zoom or in a class, on one of our Brighton courses. Even a few minutes of meditation each day can make a difference.
