Transcendental Meditation during Covid Lockdown

When lockdown swiftly came into place to limit the spread of Covid we all found ourselves suddenly leading  different lives.

As we were trying to figure out how to keep life on track without leaving the house, a very interesting thing happened in our meditation community.  It was as though someone had the idea that “if we can’t go out, let’s go within,” and so we started to organise meditation meet ups using video conferencing.

One of the marvellous things about TM is that it’s a great meditation technique to practice in a group. Meditating with other people can be a very profound experience.

At first, I was a little wary of meditating over the internet as I’d always taught TM in person and I wondered if meeting in this way with the physical distance between us would feel as though something was missing. I was pleasantly surprised to find this wasn’t the case at all.

Zoom became the platform of choice and TM teachers began to organise many more group meditations than would usually be possible.  As time went on, the groups became bigger and the experience was nourishing and uplifting. We found a way to be together, share our experience and deepen our practice.

In the midst of a period characterised by fear and uncertainty, our meditation gave us something valuable.  Thank-you TM!
