TM and Creativity
“Everything begins with consciousness.” So says Madonna on 2026 summer release Good For the Soul.
The reason many people become interested in Transcendental Meditation is because it’s all about consciousness. TM explores the nature of consciousness.
It develops awareness of something other than the surface values of life with which many other meditation techniques are concerned such as the body, breathing or the environment.
Much of our daily life is concerned with surface values, Transcendental Meditation offers depth, it expands whatever consciousness we have to begin with, broadens awareness and enhances perception both during and after the practice.
The ancient Vedic texts of India such as the Upanishads teach us that consciousness is infinite, that we can experience an ocean of it. The ‘transcendental’ in Transcendental Meditation is all about this: allowing our awareness to travel inwards naturally, going beyond surface, concrete, analytical thought to more subtle levels of thought, experiencing increasing awareness, and deep rest. At the deepest point, we transcend thought entirely and experience awareness itself, just pure consciousness.
Consciousness is the ‘I am-ness’ in us; we are aware that we exist because of consciousness. Consciousness is intelligent, the source of our creativity, it contains an infinite number of ideas and an infinite numbers of solutions.
We usually become aware of ideas when they reach the surface of the mind. TM allows us to become aware of them at more subtle levels, to naturally align ourselves with the flow of ideas, of consciousness.
This is why so many creatives: musicians, artists and writers enjoy the practice of Transcendental Meditation and find it so useful in their work.
You can learn Transcendental Meditation with The Meditation People on our hybrid courses, where the 4 sessions comprise both in-person and online instruction or you can learn TM in person in with us West Sussex or Hove, East Sussex.
