Do you need a teacher to learn TM?
Can you learn TM from a book, the internet or someone who has taken the course? Definitely not! Here’s why:
Attempting to teach yourself TM or learning from someone who isn’t a qualified teacher would mean you learn someone’s version of TM but not authentic, effective TM as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This is what a TM teacher will do for you:
Teach you a mantra: You’ll be given a mantra which suits you. It’s important that you learn the correct mantra. You need to hear your mantra from a teacher. Interpreting a mantra from written form will not be effective. Neither will choosing your own mantra without the requisite training. The way that you’re given the mantra is also very important. It’s imparted after the teacher performs a traditional ceremony and it comes with specific, delicate and essential instructions.
Show you how to use your mantra: Without this, TM won’t work. It’s not something that’s said in a sentence. Your TM teacher will guide you through correct meditation several times during your course and use diagrams, verbal explanations and video clips to show you how the mantra works. It’s a simple and enjoyable thing to learn and it’s something you need to practice several times with a qualified teacher.
Explain what correct meditation is: If you don’t know what correct Transcendental Meditation is, you won’t feel confident meditating by yourself at home or getting into a routine of meditating regularly. It’s a great feeling to understand and know how to meditate. TM is something you learn once and then you have the technique for life so you may as well learn properly.
