The Mind is Like the Ocean

Someone said to me in a TM introductory presentation recently that they didn’t think they could sit still with their eyes closed for 20 minutes.  I have to say, I don’t either!   Sitting doing nothing for 20 minutes could be very frustrating.  It’s the idea of sitting for 20 minutes with a mind full of racing thoughts that leads people who haven’t learned TM to think they won’t be able to do it.

When we teach TM we often compare the mind to the sea.  During the day our minds are like the surface of the sea.  They’re constantly active and busy, much like the waves on the surface of the water. But what if there was a way to go beneath the surface of the mind to quieter levels of awareness?  It would be a bit like going beneath the choppy surface of the sea to quieter, calmer levels of water. If we could do this with the mind then we would feel more relaxed and settled.  The mind would be calmer, thinking would be quieter and we’d experience the mind at a fully alert, yet more peaceful state.  If we could do this, it’d easy to sit for 20 minutes because we’d feel so relaxed.  This is Transcendental Meditation. Many people who practice TM experience exactly this. After 20 minutes of TM many people wish they could continue meditating because it feels so good.

The process is effortless and natural.  We teach TM both in person and online using Zoom and high-quality audio equipment. If you complete our application form, we’ll then contact you for a free, no obligation 15-minute Zoom chat which will explain more about TM and the course and you’ll be able to ask any questions you have.
